With all due respect, it might be time for the senior Chipolopolo to take a long, hard look at the Under-17 boys — and learn a thing or two. The juniors are playing with the kind of hunger, chemistry, and confidence that seems to have faded from the senior team. Right now, the U17s are the ones carrying the true spirit of Zambian football.
At the moment, the senior side appears to be missing that magic spark, the zeal, and the belief needed to dominate matches. Meanwhile, the U17s are showing the nation what teamwork, discipline, and passion can achieve. They’re not playing for fame or personal glory — they’re playing for the badge, for each other, and for Zambia.
Take Jonathan Kalimina, for instance — what a player! It’s hard to even define his position because he’s literally everywhere on the pitch. One minute he’s defending, the next he’s dictating play in midfield or pushing forward in attack. His leadership, versatility, and commitment are remarkable for someone so young.
Then there’s Abel Nyirongo, the striker every coach dreams of. Our senior strikers could learn a lot from this young man. Nyirongo scores from distance, finds space even when tightly marked, and plays with intelligence and composure. He’s not just physical — he’s smart, reading the game and creating opportunities for his teammates in the final third. That’s true football IQ.
And how can we not mention the Mkushi boy, Mapalo Simute — wearing the iconic No.17 once graced by Rainford Kalaba. The boy is pure genius on the ball: calm, creative, and confident. In goal, the young Red Arrows shot-stopper is quickly establishing himself as a wall in the making — fearless, reliable, and commanding.
Honestly, every player in that U17 squad is a joy to watch. Their chemistry, unity, and fighting spirit are paying off, and they’ve reminded us what it truly means to wear the Zambian jersey with pride.
As the senior Chipolopolo prepare to face Bafana Bafana this Saturday, the challenge is simple: match the energy and heart of the juniors. Show us that you’re ready for AFCON 2025. Otherwise, maybe it’s time we start focusing more on the young Chipolopolo — because right now, they’re the ones flying the flag high and reminding us what Zambian football is all about.
