We will not disappoint, says Under-17 Women’s National Team skipper Mercy Chipasula, as the Copper Princesses gear up for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Speaking to the FAZ Media Team from the team’s training camp in Lusaka, Chipasula expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness and her determination to lead by example.
“The group is tough, but we will not disappoint or let the country down. We want to win the first game, as that will give us confidence,” she said.
Chipasula added that the lessons from last year’s tournament in the Dominican Republic have strengthened the team’s resolve.
“I want to push myself and score a goal to help the team. This year, we are ready to go beyond the group stage. Let the fans believe in us and we shall deliver.”
The skipper emphasized the team’s unity and fighting spirit.
“Training is going well, and everyone is pushing hard. Yes, we did not do well in the previous edition, but this year, we want to do better. We will work hard, believe in ourselves, and play as a team. As captain, I have to lead by example and score goals that will help the team,” she said.
The Copper Princesses are drawn in Group F alongside Paraguay, Japan, and New Zealand. The team will set up base in Morocco, where they are scheduled to play three international preparatory matches before the tournament kicks off.
Zambia opens their campaign on 19 October against Paraguay at the Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 3) in Sale, before facing Japan three days later at the same venue. Their final group match will be against New Zealand at Pitch 2 of the same academy.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stages.
The Copper Princesses depart for Morocco this Saturday for their pre-tournament camp as they continue their preparations with high hopes of making the nation proud.
