Reigning champions Green Buffaloes Women Football Club have made their way to South Africa for the CAF Women's Champions | COSAFA Qualifiers that kicks-off this week.
Buffaloes made their way to South Africa from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka aboard South African Airways and will open their defensive title ambitions with a date against Double Action Ladies on 30 August at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.
Next in Charles Haalubono’s roster will be against Malawian champions Ntopwa FC two days later wrapping up their Group A assignment against Lesotho Defence Force on 4 September, 2023.
The Zambian champions have beefed up the squad with the signing on loan of winger Xiomara Mapepa and midfielder Comfort Selemani from Elite Ladies FC. Esther Banda (BUSA) and Nkwazi FC duo of goalkeeper Eunice Sakala and striker Eneless Phiri are also at the Zambia Army sponsored side. Goalkeeper Ngambo Musole has also made the travelling party with striker Natasha Nanyangwe who has returned from injury.
The teams at this year’s tournament will face-off in a round-robin format with the top two sides in each pool advancing to the semi-finals. The winner of Group A will meet the runner-up in Group B, and vice-versa.
Only the club that wins this year’s qualifier will advance to the continental competition, which is scheduled to be held from November 5-19.
