The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially rescheduled the Morocco 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), moving the tournament to 25 July – 16 August 2026.

The competition had initially been set for 17 March – 3 April 2026 following CAF’s decision in October 2024 to award Morocco the hosting rights. However, new dates have now been confirmed after consultations with key stakeholders.

In a statement published on CAF’s official website, the governing body explained:

“In October 2024, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Morocco the organisation of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, initially scheduled for 17 March to 3 April 2026.

After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF has decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026, from 25 July to 16 August 2026, in order to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, given certain unforeseen circumstances.”

CAF further confirmed that preparations remain on track and expressed confidence in delivering a successful tournament.

Zambia has been drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Malawi and Egypt, setting up what promises to be a competitive group stage battle.

Importantly, the 2026 WAFCON will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the top four teams earning automatic qualification to the global showpiece.
