Chipolopolo team doctor Wesley Ngongo has dismissed social media speculation suggesting that striker Patson Daka sustained a neck injury during his trademark somersault celebration after scoring against Mali.
Rumours online claimed that the Leicester City forward may have mislanded during the celebration, sparking fears of a potential injury setback. However, Dr Ngongo has reassured fans that Zambia’s star striker is fully fit and in perfect condition.
“I would like to assure everyone that Patson is 100 percent fine. He has no injury. Of course, football is a contact sport—players run, sometimes they trip, sometimes they fall—but they don’t get injured from minor contacts or small falls,” Dr Ngongo explained.
He further confirmed that Daka, who salvaged a crucial point for Chipolopolo with his equaliser against Mali, has no pain, no neck stiffness and no discomfort whatsoever.
“He has no pain, no stiffness and his neck movement is perfect. He is fully available for today’s training,” he added.
Dr Ngongo also provided positive updates on Lameck Banda and Miguel Chaiwa, who were both substituted during the match. He revealed that the duo only picked up minor knocks and will be available for training, while Lubambo Musonda has also been declared fully fit.
“Everyone is available to train. We did not record any serious injuries from yesterday’s match. Lameck picked up a minor knock, Miguel too, and Lubambo as well, but nothing serious. They are all fit to fully participate in training today,” he confirmed.
Meanwhile, veteran defender Stoppila Sunzu, who missed the Mali clash due to illness, has also recovered and is set to rejoin the squad in full training.
“You may recall that Stoppila Sunzu did not participate in yesterday’s game due to illness, but he has since recovered and will train fully today,” said Dr Ngongo.
With all key players cleared, Zambia will head back into training with renewed confidence as preparations continue for their next AFCON assignment.
