The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that the Zambia Women’s National Team, the Copper Queens, will participate in two international friendly matches during the FIFA window from February 17-26, 2025.

FAZ General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, stated that the Copper Queens would take on Malawi’s Scorchers as part of their preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which is scheduled to take place in Morocco in July. He expressed excitement over the planned matches, emphasizing that they would provide the newly appointed technical bench an opportunity to begin their work with the team.

Kamanga further explained that the friendly matches would be classified as A-Grade fixtures, with both teams expected to field their strongest squads. He mentioned that FAZ had initially planned to organize a six-nation tournament but faced unforeseen challenges that led to the plan being shelved. However, he reassured stakeholders that the aim was always to secure multiple matches for the Copper Queens during the FIFA window.

In addition to the matches, Kamanga revealed that FAZ would host an awards gala on February 22, 2025, to honor outstanding and long-serving contributors to women’s football in Zambia. The event would coincide with the international window matches, providing a platform to celebrate key figures in the sport.

FAZ reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the Copper Queens have adequate preparations ahead of the WAFCON and expressed optimism that the upcoming fixtures would be beneficial for the team’s progress.
