Former Chipolopolo coach Milutin Sredojevic has attributed Zambia’s disappointing performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to excessive experimentation in player selection and a lack of experience within the squad.

Sredojevic said one of the major challenges facing the Chipolopolo team was the imbalance between young and experienced players, which affected consistency and leadership during the tournament.

According to the former coach, tournaments of AFCON’s magnitude demand a strong core of seasoned players who can provide stability, leadership, and composure in high-pressure situations. He explained that Zambia would have benefited more from relying on experienced campaigners to guide the younger players on the pitch.

Sredojevic further noted that the situation highlights the need for a clear long-term strategy in national team development. He stressed the importance of having a structured plan that outlines how players are identified, developed, and gradually integrated into the senior national team.

He added that such an approach would help ensure continuity, balance, and improved performances in future international tournaments.
