FAZ BOLSTERS COPPER QUEENS TECHNICAL BENCH AHEAD OF UGANDA OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has strengthened the Copper Queens technical bench ahead of their two-legged 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Uganda, bringing in Florence Mwila and William Zulu on an interim basis.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya announced that ZESCO Ndola Girls head coach Mwila and the club’s technical advisor Zulu had joined Charles Haalubono’s interim technical bench with immediate effect.
Mwila will serve as first assistant coach, while Zulu has been appointed second assistant coach as Zambia steps up preparations for the crucial qualifiers.
“The FAZ Technical Committee has appointed coaches Florence Mwila and William Zulu on an interim basis to assist interim coach Charles Haalubono in preparing the Copper Queens for the two-legged Olympic qualifier against Uganda,” Chakatazya said.
MWILA RETURNS TO COPPER QUEENS SETUP
Mwila brings considerable experience to the technical bench and currently serves as head coach of the Zambia Under-20 Women’s National Team.
She previously took interim charge of the Copper Queens when Zambia won the 2024 COSAFA Women’s Championship, becoming the first female coach to achieve the feat.
Mwila also previously worked as an assistant to former Copper Queens head coach Bruce Mwape.
Zulu, meanwhile, joins the national team setup from ZESCO Ndola Girls, where he serves as technical advisor.
ALL-LOCAL BENCH TASKED WITH OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION
The appointments come as the Copper Queens prepare to begin their qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Zambia will travel to Kampala for the first leg against Uganda on 8 October 2026, before hosting the return leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on 13 October.
FAZ said it would continue supporting the technical bench as Zambia targets qualification for a third consecutive Olympic Games.
Chakatazya also called on supporters and other football stakeholders to rally behind the all-local technical bench as the Copper Queens embark on another Olympic qualification campaign.
