The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that coach Moses Sichone, midfielder Miguel Chaiwa, and video analyst Elias Chipota have been admitted to St George Private Hospital in Port Elizabeth following reported cases of suspected food poisoning within the Chipolopolo camp on Saturday in South Africa.
According to FAZ, the trio were taken to the hospital after their condition worsened, with symptoms including fever, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Team Doctor Wesley Ngongo has remained in Port Elizabeth to attend to the affected members.
FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande indicated that the Association is working with the host federation and local medical authorities to ensure the best possible care for those admitted. He also noted that earlier cases reported within the team had shown significant improvement and the affected individuals continued to be monitored.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Chipolopolo delegation has departed Port Elizabeth for Angola via Johannesburg. Zesco United players, who include Kabaso Chongo, Gift Mphande, Pascal Phiri, and David Simukonda, have headed back to Zambia to link up with their teammates ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup match against Zamalek.
FAZ also reported that Leicester City forward Patson Daka will not feature in the second friendly against Angola, following a request from his club. In addition, Kennedy Musonda, who is based in Israel, has returned to attend to his wife, who fell ill while he was on national duty.
Zambia is scheduled to play Angola on Tuesday in Luanda, in what will be the second international friendly arranged by FAZ for the November FIFA window.
