The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has unveiled plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with key government ministries as part of efforts to tackle the declining standards of football in the country.
FAZ General Secretary, Machacha Shepande, explained that the MoU will involve the Ministries of Education; Youth, Sport and Arts; Local Government and Rural Development, as well as the Association itself. He described the move as a pivotal step toward revitalising Zambian football, noting that the sport currently stands at a crossroads.
Shepande attributed the challenges facing the game to decisions made more than 15 years ago, which he said had left a lasting negative impact on football development. He further highlighted the disconnect between FAZ and school-level football as one of the main factors behind the decline.
Speaking to ZNBC Sport News, Shepande stressed his commitment to drawing on his vast experience to rebuild the game. He said his vision is to lay a strong foundation that will enhance Zambia’s chances of qualifying for the 2030 and 2034 FIFA World Cups.
