Zambian football legend Kalusha Bwalya recently issued a statement confirming his decision not to contest the 2025 Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) elections. In his message, he expressed optimism for the future of Zambian football while outlining the reasons behind his choice.

Bwalya stated that after deep reflection, he had decided to withdraw from the race. He explained that his initial intention to run for the FAZ presidency stemmed from a desire to address the pressing challenges facing Zambian football—issues that, according to him, had hindered the nation’s progress in the sport.

He revealed that he and his team had engaged with global partners who were eager to invest in Zambian football. However, he noted that these partners, like many Zambians, had become disillusioned with a system that, in his view, had deviated from its core purpose.

Bwalya emphasized the need for leadership that truly embodied the spirit of the game, one that prioritized unity, joy, and national pride.

He urged the football community and passionate supporters to hold leaders accountable and demand greater transparency. He stressed that football was more than just a game; it had the power to unite people, restore national pride, and elevate Zambia’s status in African football.

While confirming that he would not participate in the 2025 elections, Bwalya reaffirmed his dedication to the sport. He expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and love for football, calling on everyone to work together to build a stronger future for Zambian football.

Concluding his message, Bwalya encouraged unity and perseverance, reminding his audience that although challenges lay ahead, collective effort could help Zambian football reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
