The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) has expressed concern over recent remarks by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba, who warned Copper Queens players allegedly involved in a training boycott over unpaid allowances.
FAWUZ argues that the players were simply demanding what they are rightfully owed and should not be threatened or punished for seeking their dues. The union emphasised that the athletes have professionally laboured for the national team and deserve timely payment for their services.
According to the union, FAZ’s response should have focused on acknowledging the problem and giving the players assurance, rather than issuing threats or suggesting disciplinary action.
FAWUZ has now formally engaged the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Arts regarding the longstanding issue of unpaid allowances owed to the Copper Queens, urging a swift and fair resolution to the matter.
