The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed the appointment of Mexican football manager Sergio Fentanes Orozco as Technical Analyst/Advisor for the Chipolopolo during the ongoing AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco.
FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande said the appointment is specifically tied to the AFCON campaign and is intended to provide targeted technical and analytical support to the national team’s technical bench. He revealed that Fentanes has already been with the squad since their arrival in Casablanca last week.
Shepande stated that the engagement forms part of FAZ’s broader strategy to strengthen the team’s technical capacity during the tournament.
“In our efforts to reinforce the Chipolopolo technical setup at the ongoing AFCON, we have engaged Sergio Fentanes Orozco as Technical Analyst/Advisor for the tournament in Morocco, which runs from 19th December 2025 to 18th January 2026,” he said.
He further clarified that the appointment does not alter FAZ’s commitment to empowering local coaches, but rather complements their work in an environment where advanced match analysis and opposition profiling are essential.
“Fentanes was selected because of his previous work with the Zambia national teams, including the Chipolopolo squads at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt and the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea. He was also part of the Zambia Under-17 technical team that qualified for the 2015 CAF Under-17 AFCON finals in Niger,” Shepande explained.
Fentanes also brings extensive international experience, having served in similar analytical roles with the national teams of Peru and Mexico, expertise which FAZ believes will significantly enhance match preparation, tactical planning and in-game analysis for the Chipolopolo.
Shepande expressed confidence that Fentanes’ presence will add technical depth and broaden the team’s analytical capabilities as Zambia continues its AFCON 2025 campaign under head coach Moses Sichone.
