SICHONE UPBEAT AHEAD OF CHIPOLOPOLO AFCON OPENER AGAINST MALI

Chipolopolo head coach Moses Sichone says Zambia is fully focused and motivated ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Mali, expressing confidence that his side is ready to compete strongly on the continental stage.

Zambia takes on Mali tomorrow, December 22, 2025, at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off set for 16:00 CAT.

Sichone says while the excitement of finally getting into tournament action is evident in camp, the team remains grounded and aware of the responsibility they carry.

“While it is exciting to be here as individuals, we are not forgetting the big task of representing millions of Zambians,” said Sichone.

Turning his attention to the clash against Mali, the coach expressed respect for the Eagles but maintained that Zambia is coming with belief and determination.

“The respect we have for Mali will only apply before kick-off,” he said confidently.

Asked about CAF’s decision to change the AFCON cycle, Sichone stressed that his attention remains purely on football matters.

“As a coach, I will not be bothered by the decision to change the AFCON cycle,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo captain Fashion Sakala is equally confident, saying Zambia’s squad depth and balance give the team a competitive edge.

“The mix of experienced and young players in the squad is one of our strengths at this AFCON,” Sakala said.

“We have a team with the capacity to compete well at this tournament.”

Zambia will be looking to make a strong statement in their opening Group A encounter as they face a determined Mali side in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

Kick-off is at 16:00 CAT and the match will be broadcast live on ZNBC and SuperSport.
