The stage is set for an exciting Group E FIFA World Cup qualifier as the Chipolopolo host Niger at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

Head coach Avram Grant says the match is more than just a qualifier — it’s a key step in Zambia’s journey toward building a consistent and competitive team ahead of future tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON).

“We played a game against Tanzania, but we have one more game, and this is the last game before AfCON. We want to win this game,” said Grant. “Niger is a very good team; they are three points ahead of us. But if we win, we’ll be in second place. What’s important for us is to show good mentality, good football, and get the three points.”

Midfielder Emmanuel Banda echoed his coach’s sentiments and urged fans to rally behind the team.

“I would like to invite the fans to come in numbers as they did in Morocco. Despite the results, they were there from start to end. We hope they come in numbers again to support us as we aim for all three points,” Banda said.

Meanwhile, Niger assistant coach Zakariaou Ibrahim expressed confidence in his team’s readiness, saying they were in Ndola to compete and push for victory.

“We have come to play a good game and would like to win. We cannot reveal our strategy, so let’s see what happens tomorrow,” Ibrahim stated.

His remarks were supported by Niger captain Hassane Adamou, who affirmed the team’s determination to finish the qualifiers strongly.

Both sides are eyeing second place in Group E, making Sunday’s clash a high-stakes encounter for pride and momentum.
