War of Words Erupts Between Clifford Mulenga and Fashion Sakala

31.12.2025 | Football DNA ⚽️

A heated exchange emerged on social media between former Chipolopolo winger Clifford Mulenga and national team captain Fashion Sakala Jr, after Mulenga claimed that Sakala had allegedly fallen ill before Zambia’s match against Morocco because he ate ifinkubala (caterpillars), a delicacy he had supposedly never eaten before.

Mulenga reportedly stated on his Facebook page that Sakala chose to try the traditional delicacy ahead of what he described as the “biggest match of the tournament” and claimed that the forward reacted badly to it, which allegedly affected his fitness for the crucial fixture.

In response, Fashion Sakala Jr dismissed the allegation and expressed disappointment over what he described as misleading claims. Sakala reportedly said that it was surprising that some people would believe it was his first time eating ifinkubala, explaining that he grew up in the village where such food is common.

He further stated that he was not shocked by the accusations, claiming that Mulenga had, in the past, frequently approached him for financial help which he provided until he could no longer continue. According to Sakala, Mulenga allegedly became hostile after that and began portraying him negatively.

Sakala went on to say that while everyone was entitled to their opinion, he believed Mulenga’s remarks were driven by personal bitterness rather than football matters. He urged him to be truthful and stop misleading the public. He also reportedly accused the former winger of being known more for disciplinary problems than positive contribution to the game.

The Chipolopolo skipper added that he normally would not have responded, but felt compelled to address what he considered disrespect. He emphasized that he was not a perfect footballer and acknowledged being human like everyone else, stating that his goal was simply to contribute positively to the country without belittling others.

He concluded by advising Mulenga to “stay in his lane,” suggesting that instead of spreading negativity, he should accept past mistakes and support the next generation of players.

The exchange has sparked widespread discussion among Zambian football fans, marking yet another dramatic moment in the local football fraternity as tensions between the two football personalities continue to unfold.
