Zambian superstar Barbra Banda produced another outstanding performance for Orlando Pride, scoring twice and providing an assist in a 3-1 victory over Bay FC before suffering an injury scare late in the match.
The Copper Queens captain was once again the difference-maker, opening the scoring just four minutes into the game before adding her second goal shortly after halftime. She also set up Orlando's third goal in a dominant display that further strengthened her position at the top of the NWSL Golden Boot race.
Banda now has 11 goals in just 12 league matches this season, underlining her status as one of the most lethal forwards in women's football.
However, what should have been a night of celebration ended on a worrying note for Orlando Pride and Zambian football fans. In the closing stages of the match, Banda pulled up while sprinting for the ball near the touchline and immediately appeared to be in discomfort.
The forward sat on the pitch visibly emotional as medical staff attended to her. With Orlando having already used all of their substitutions, the team finished the match with 10 players.
Following the game, Orlando Pride head coach Seb Hines admitted that the full extent of the injury was not yet known.
Despite the injury concern, Banda's impact on the match was undeniable. Her teammate Cori Dyke praised the striker's contribution, highlighting the threat she consistently poses to opposition defenses.
Banda's remarkable start to the season comes after a difficult 2025 campaign that was disrupted by injury. The Zambian international missed a significant portion of last season after suffering a hip adductor injury but returned stronger than ever at the start of the current campaign.
Since joining Orlando Pride, Banda has established herself as one of the club's most influential players. In her debut NWSL season in 2024, she scored 13 regular-season goals and added four more in the playoffs, including the winning goal in the NWSL Championship final. Her performance earned her the match MVP award and further cemented her reputation as a world-class striker.
A two-time Ballon d'Or nominee and one of Africa's biggest football stars, Banda continues to carry the hopes of both Orlando Pride and the Zambian national team.
As fans await updates on her condition, the hope across Zambia and Orlando is that the injury is not serious and that the prolific striker will be back on the pitch soon, continuing the incredible form that has made her one of the standout players in world football.
For now, the football world holds its breath, hoping that Barbra Banda's latest setback is only a minor scare.
