According to seasoned sports journalist Augustine Mukoka, former Copper Queens head coach Bruce Mwape has alleged that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) owes him more than $84,000 (approximately K2 million) in unpaid dues.

Mwape disclosed the matter in an interview with Crown TV sports journalist Linosi Victoria, stating that although he worked with the Copper Queens for over four years, he later signed a two-year contract with FAZ valued at $3,500 per month.

The Chingola-born coach pointed to his achievements with the national women’s team, which included three Africa Cup of Nations qualifications, two Olympic Games appearances, and one FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance. Despite this record, Mwape said he received only part of what was due from the period he served FAZ without a contract.

Mwape expressed disappointment that others who had joined the national setup after him were being paid, while he had allegedly been left without compensation. He reportedly remarked that qualifying the team to global tournaments was a significant achievement, yet he departed “without even a ngwee.”

When asked whether he had received any payments under his two-year contract, Mwape is reported to have responded that he had not been paid anything.

Mwape’s tenure ended under controversy after allegations of sexual misconduct led FIFA to separate him from the team ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Although FAZ indicated it was investigating the matter, he was eventually relieved of his duties and replaced by Swiss coach Nora Hauptle, whose monthly salary is estimated at $10,000.

The situation has added another layer of complexity to the Copper Queens’ coaching history, raising questions about contractual obligations and the treatment of local coaches.
