The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced that the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), originally scheduled for 2024, will now take place in August 2025. The tournament, which is set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, has been postponed to allow additional time for infrastructure and facility development.

CAF highlighted the significant progress made in the three host nations, including the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure. However, CAF's Technical and Infrastructure experts, some of whom have been stationed in the host countries, advised that more time is needed to meet the required standards for hosting a successful championship.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the host nations—President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda—for their commitment and efforts in advancing preparations. Dr. Motsepe commended the progress made in upgrading football infrastructure and expressed confidence that the facilities would meet CAF's standards by August 2025.

The draw for the tournament is set to take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, at 20:00 Nairobi time. While the exact dates for the competition in August 2025 have not yet been confirmed, CAF assured fans and stakeholders that an announcement would be made in due course.

The delay aims to ensure that the championship is hosted at the highest possible standard, reflecting CAF's commitment to delivering a world-class tournament in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
