The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has unveiled an ambitious nationwide player selection exercise following the Executive Committee meeting held on July 19, 2024. The initiative, recommended by the Technical Committee, aims to identify and nurture football talent from every corner of the country.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga announced that the Executive Committee has adopted the proposal, with the process set to commence soon. "The countrywide selection for male players will involve two streams of teams converging in Lusaka for Southern, Lusaka, Central, Eastern, and Western provinces. Meanwhile, the Copperbelt, North Western, Northern, Luapula, and Muchinga provinces will form another group," Kamanga explained.
The selection process will culminate in a face-off between the best players from these provincial teams. The top squad will then have the opportunity to compete against the national team in an "All Stars Versus the Rest" format. This exciting event will allow selectors to identify potential national team players.
Kamanga emphasized the importance of this initiative in uncovering hidden talent, particularly from rural areas. "We encourage technical experts in the provinces to bring to the fore some of the much-talked-about rural talent that can be brought to the attention of national selectors," he said.
He also mentioned that this exercise would be integrated into the Technical Director’s wider program to ensure no prospective talent is overlooked. This comprehensive approach underscores FAZ’s commitment to developing football across Zambia, providing a platform for aspiring players to showcase their skills and potentially represent the nation.
The nationwide player selection exercise is a significant step forward for Zambian football, promising to bring fresh talent to the national stage and strengthen the country's footballing future.
