The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Electoral Committee has announced the successful candidates for the upcoming elections. Chairperson Ronald Hatoongo revealed that only one candidate, incumbent Andrew Kamanga, met the qualifications for the presidency. Meanwhile, the vice presidency will be contested between Justin Mumba and Christopher Kasale.
Hatoongo stated that unsuccessful candidates would have until February 22, 2025, to lodge appeals before the final list is published within five days. He emphasized that the vetting process was conducted in line with FIFA statutes, with candidates assessed based on eligibility criteria outlined in Article 33 of the FAZ Constitution.
The committee clarified that the integrity test, a key component of the eligibility process, was carried out as per Article 33(2). The Governance and Review Committee had conducted integrity checks on all prospective candidates and submitted its report to the Electoral Committee.
Additionally, it was explained that nominators were required to be validly registered in the FAZ Connect system for the 2024/2025 season. Hatoongo noted that each nomination had to be supported by two independent nominators, both of whom needed to be valid FAZ members. Moreover, the committee verified that individuals submitting nominations on behalf of FAZ members held authorized positions, such as President, Chairman, General Secretary, or CEO.
The committee also examined candidates’ leadership experience, ensuring that they had served in leadership roles within FAZ for at least five years, with three of those years being immediately before the elections. This assessment was conducted through FAZ Connect to verify each candidate’s leadership history from March 2022 to date.
Regarding provincial chairpersons, five incumbents—Chisanga Pule (Central), Patrick Ndhlovu (Copperbelt), Mweemba Mujala (Luapula), Jordan Maliti (Lusaka), and David Simwinga (Western)—were confirmed as successful candidates. It was also reported that Samuel Mwape (Muchinga) and Nicholas Moomba (Southern) had gone through unopposed.
Hatoongo further indicated that elections would take place for the chairmanship in Eastern and North Western provinces. Crispin Kamuna would face Patrick Nyirenda in Eastern, while Arthur Kamulosu and Brian Sakulenga would compete in North Western. Additionally, he mentioned that Colonel Priscilla Katoba had been declared unopposed as the National Women’s Representative due to the absence of challengers.
It was highlighted that no candidates were successful for the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) and Northern Province chairperson positions. The committee reiterated that unsuccessful candidates had the opportunity to appeal between February 17 and 22 before the final list was confirmed.
