The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Disciplinary Committee has fined Power Dynamos and Nkana FC K100,000 each after finding both Kitwe-based clubs guilty of allowing political slogans to be chanted by sections of their supporters during MTN Super League matches.

According to a statement issued by FAZ on Sunday, 1 November 2026, both clubs were found to have breached Article 3 of the FAZ Constitution, which prohibits political sloganeering at football venues.

The disciplinary action follows separate incidents involving supporters of the two Copperbelt giants during their respective league fixtures in October.

Power Dynamos Handed K100,000 Fine

Power Dynamos were sanctioned following an incident during their MTN Super League Week 2 encounter against Nchanga Rangers at Arthur Davies Stadium on 11 October 2026.

The Disciplinary Committee established that a considerable section of Power Dynamos supporters had repeatedly chanted political slogans during the match, prompting the Zambian Premier League to demand an explanation from the club.

In its response, Power Dynamos condemned political chants and acts of indiscipline, acknowledged its responsibility to promote appropriate supporter behaviour and expressed regret over what it described as an isolated incident.

After considering the submissions, the committee unanimously imposed a K100,000 fine on the defending league champions.

The club was also handed a three-match ban from playing at Arthur Davies Stadium, although the implementation of the sanction was suspended.

Nkana Fined and Handed Partially Suspended Five-Match Home Ban

Meanwhile, Nkana FC were found guilty of a similar offence following their league fixture against Makeni All Stars at Nkana Stadium on 10 October 2026.

According to FAZ, a considerable section of Nkana supporters had chanted political slogans during the encounter, raising concerns about the use of football matches to advance political interests.

The Disciplinary Committee observed that such conduct was inconsistent with the principles of sportsmanship, political neutrality and fair play.

Nkana subsequently expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged that the conduct of its supporters had fallen below the standards expected at league matches.

The club also outlined corrective measures aimed at preventing similar incidents.

Following its deliberations, the committee imposed a K100,000 fine on Nkana, payable within 72 hours of the issuance of the verdict.

The 13-time Zambian champions were further ordered to play their next five home matches behind closed doors at a neutral venue located at least 300 kilometres from Nkana Stadium.

However, the committee partially suspended the five-match sanction, meaning it would only take effect if Nkana were found guilty of a similar offence in subsequent matches.

Both Power Dynamos and Nkana have been granted the right to appeal their respective verdicts within 72 hours of receiving the rulings.

FAZ Warns Against Turning Football into a Political Battleground

Reacting to the disciplinary decisions, FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya welcomed the committee's swift intervention and urged football stakeholders to learn from the incidents.

Chakatazya said the rulings had provided much-needed clarity on the matter and expressed hope that clubs and supporters would respect the regulations governing football.

He emphasised that football remained an important source of entertainment and unity for Zambians and should not be used as a platform for political confrontation.

The FAZ General Secretary further expressed hope that football stadiums would remain safe and welcoming environments for supporters, players and officials.

The sanctions serve as a warning to Zambian football clubs about their responsibility to manage supporter conduct and maintain political neutrality at match venues.
