Zambia’s flagship sporting arena, Heroes Stadium, is set to receive a major facelift as a brand-new turf will be installed by September 2025. This development comes as the country ramps up preparations to host high-profile international fixtures and strengthen its capacity to stage continental tournaments.

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis Nkandu, made the announcement in an exclusive interview with Diamond TV Sports. He disclosed that the contractor in charge of the project has procured a state-of-the-art stitching machine from Italy, which is key to the turf installation process. The machine was in South Africa as of July and is currently en route to Lusaka, with delivery expected at Heroes Stadium within two weeks.

Once the equipment arrives, Nkandu stated, the turf installation will take approximately two weeks to complete. He emphasized that the upgraded playing surface will meet international FIFA standards, enhancing the quality of football and other events hosted at the venue.

The minister also took the opportunity to call on the public to play an active role in protecting the stadium from vandalism. “When we take good care of infrastructure like Heroes Stadium, government can channel saved resources to other pressing needs such as health, education, and youth empowerment,” Nkandu noted.

The new turf installation not only symbolizes Zambia’s commitment to sports development but also positions the country as a competitive destination for international sporting events.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Heroes Stadium transformation progresses.
