Zambian midfielder Prisca Chilufya has officially left Liga MX Femenil side FC Juárez Femenil and is set to join an undisclosed club in the United States National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The move was announced during a press conference attended by Chilufya, FC Juárez sports director Jesús Mesta, and head coach Óscar Fernández.
The club described Chilufya’s transfer as a historic moment, acknowledging her contributions since joining in 2023. Mesta confirmed that an offer had been received from an NWSL team and that the decision had been made to allow Chilufya to make the switch. He expressed pride in both the midfielder and the women’s team as a whole.
Fernández admitted that losing Chilufya was a difficult decision from a sporting perspective, as she had been a key figure both on and off the pitch. He emphasized the importance of allowing players to grow and pursue their dreams, noting that Chilufya had shown remarkable progress during her time at the club.
The coach further praised Chilufya’s work ethic, stating that she was the kind of player any coach would want to work with due to her dedication and willingness to learn. He credited her personal commitment, as well as the support of her teammates, for her development.
During the press conference, Chilufya expressed gratitude to the club, the city, and her teammates, describing them as family. She shared that Juárez had felt like home to her and that she would always carry fond memories of her time there.
Having joined FC Juárez in 2023, Chilufya quickly became an integral part of the team, scoring 14 goals and helping the club qualify for two playoffs in the 2023/24 season. Her departure is expected to impact the team’s gameplay, but Fernández reaffirmed his trust in the squad, stating that every player in the team had an important role.
FC Juárez extended its appreciation to Chilufya for her dedication and professionalism, wishing her success in the next chapter of her career.
