As she prepares for her second season with Bay FC in the NWSL, Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji has expressed her desire for a more consistent performance in 2025. The forward, who joined Bay FC for a then-record transfer fee of €735,000 ($787,600) from Madrid CFF in February 2024, believes she has more to offer after scoring five goals in her debut campaign.
Reflecting on her first season, Kundananji admitted that while she showed glimpses of her best form—most notably with a brace against Houston Dash that secured Bay FC’s place in the playoffs—she believes she can perform at a higher level. Speaking to ESPN, she stated that 2025 was the year to show something different to the world. She emphasized her commitment to building on her strong finish in 2024, both individually and as part of a team that now fully belongs in the NWSL.
Kundananji also acknowledged that she missed several goal-scoring opportunities last season but stopped short of making promises for 2025, simply urging fans to "watch out." She explained that her best performances came when she played without external pressure, focusing instead on enjoying the game. Recalling her standout performance against Houston Dash, she highlighted the importance of playing freely and giving fans an entertaining experience.
Addressing criticism from supporters in Zambia, the 24-year-old striker stated that she no longer felt pressure. She noted that while fans could be critical when things were not going well, they were also quick to offer support when she performed. She revealed that she had adopted a mindset that allows her to use past encouragement as motivation, reminding herself that even during difficult times, people ultimately want to see her succeed.
Bay FC will begin their 2025 NWSL campaign against Utah Royals on March 15, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 AM CAT on March 16. A highly anticipated matchup against Orlando Pride, featuring Kundananji’s international teammate Barbra Banda, is set for June 13 in San Jose (4 AM CAT on June 14).
Kundananji hopes that Bay FC will not just be fighting for a playoff spot this season, but instead competing as a true title contender alongside teams like Orlando Pride.
