According to seasoned sports journalist Augustine Mukoka, Zesco United defender Zachariah Chilongoshi is reportedly in custody on drug-related allegations.
Mukoka indicated that the defender, who travelled with Zesco United to Gabon for a CAF Confederation Cup fixture, was allegedly picked up by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Ndola on Tuesday.
He further reported that the player, who has also featured for the Chipolopolo, was said to have been in camp at Njele Lodge in Ndola when DEC officers apprehended him.
Chilongoshi was later transferred to Lusaka, where he was alleged to have purchased the drugs from a supplier. The supplier was also reportedly arrested after attempting to courier the package to Ndola on the player’s behalf.
Mukoka added that both the DEC and the Zambia Police are expected to issue an official statement on the matter in due course.
