Former Copper Queens head coach Bruce Mwape has revealed that he has not received formal communication from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) regarding his dismissal. This comes after FAZ announced the appointment of Swiss national Nora Hauptle as the new head coach on a three-year contract.
Mwape’s Reaction
In an interview, Mwape expressed his surprise at the announcement, stating that while he respects the decision, he is yet to receive any official notification.
“I have just learnt about that; it hasn't been officially communicated to me. This has to be official,” Mwape reportedly said. He added that the FAZ statement mentioned his transition to a new role but that no details had been shared with him. “I will give you a comment once that will reach me. I don't know what they (FAZ) [have] got for me.”
Respecting the Decision
Despite the lack of communication, Mwape acknowledged FAZ’s authority in making decisions for the team. He reportedly stated:
“It’s always up to the appointing authority; just respect the decision they have made. Obviously, they have other plans for the team, and I can’t say it’s a bad decision, anyway. At the moment, I can’t say much.”
Mwape’s Achievements
During his tenure as head coach, Mwape led the Copper Queens to remarkable milestones, including:
WAFCON Qualifications: 2018, 2022, and 2025.
Olympic Games Qualifications: 2020 (Tokyo) and 2024 (Paris).
FIFA Women’s World Cup Debut: 2023.
While FAZ has yet to officially communicate his new role, Mwape’s contributions to Zambian women’s football remain undeniable, marking a significant chapter in the Copper Queens’ history.
