CAF Announces Dates for AFCON 2025 and WAFCON 2024

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) Executive Committee has officially announced the dates for the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), both set to take place in Morocco.

AFCON Morocco 2025

Africa's most prestigious football tournament, the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), will kick off in Morocco with the following key dates:

  • Opening Match: Sunday, 21 December 2025

  • Final Match: Sunday, 18 January 2026


WAFCON Morocco 2024

The CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which has been growing rapidly in popularity and competitiveness, will also be hosted in Morocco. The dates are as follows:

  • Opening Match: Saturday, 5 July 2025

  • Final Match: Saturday, 26 July 2025


Statements from CAF President

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his optimism about the upcoming tournaments:


“I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition. I am also impressed by the enormous growth of women’s football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful. The announcement of the dates took longer than expected due to complex and challenging discussions involving international and domestic match calendars.”


Dr. Motsepe also emphasized CAF’s commitment to supporting African players worldwide and building strong relationships with other football organizations, including the ECA, UEFA, and FIFA.


Gratitude to Morocco

CAF extended its gratitude to King Mohamed VI of Morocco, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), its President Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Moroccan government and people for their support in hosting these significant events.
