The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has reaffirmed its continued support for former Copper Queens midfielder Mary Mwakapila, who has been battling illness, through its Women’s Football Department and the Women in Soccer Organisation.

FAZ Women’s Football Representative and Women in Soccer Organisation President Colonel Priscilla Katoba said the football fraternity had not abandoned Mwakapila and would continue to stand with her and her family during this challenging period. She said FAZ remained committed to ensuring that the former national team player received the necessary care and emotional support.

Colonel Katoba was speaking when officials visited Mwakapila’s home as part of their Christmas fellowship programme. She explained that the visit was meant to demonstrate solidarity, love and festive cheer, while also encouraging well-wishers to continue offering assistance, including sponsoring medical treatment.

Mwakapila’s mother, Christine Njovu, expressed gratitude to FAZ and the Women in Soccer Organisation for their continued support. She however noted that the burden of caring for her daughter had become increasingly difficult, especially as her own health was also declining.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Prisca Chibale, who trained alongside Mwakapila during their time in the military, said the former midfielder had endured the illness for a considerable period. She appealed for prayers and public assistance to help the family cope with the situation.

FAZ and the Women in Soccer Organisation have since reiterated that they will continue to monitor Mwakapila’s condition while mobilising additional support from the football community and the public.
