Government Clears $5,000 AFCON Qualification Bonuses for Chipolopolo Boys: Minister Nkandu's Clarification and FAZ's Internal Resolution

The government recently disbursed $5,000 AFCON qualification bonuses owed to the Chipolopolo Boys. Elvis Nkandu, the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Arts, clarified that the money had already been released before rumors of a planned boycott surfaced. Nkandu emphasized the players' need to focus on securing maximum points against Congo for better qualification chances. He highlighted the government's consistent commitment to paying winners' bonuses and settling qualifying bonuses, dispelling any notion that the disbursement was a reaction to potential boycott plans.
FAZ Communications Manager, Sidney Mungala, explained that players' inquiries were about outstanding dues, not an intent to boycott. Mungala stated that this matter had been an ongoing internal issue addressed by all involved parties since June. Finally, Minister Elvis Nkandu confirmed this afternoon that the government cleared the outstanding balance.
