Mweemba Charts Inclusive Path for Zambian Football at Football House Debut

Football DNA – May 12, 2025

Newly elected Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba officially kicked off his tenure on Monday with a purposeful debut visit to Football House, where he met staff and delivered his first media address—outlining an ambitious, inclusive, and people-centered vision for Zambian football.

Flanked by Vice President Mutale Ng’andu, Women’s Representative Col. Priscilla Katoba, Eastern Province Chairperson Patrick Nyirenda, and Lusaka Province Chairperson Jordan Maliti, Mweemba wasted no time in setting the tone for his leadership: unity, respect for labour rights, and nationwide development.

"Whenever there is a change of government—be it political or football-related—it often creates anxiety within institutions. That shouldn’t be the case. We’re not here to victimize anyone," said Mweemba. "Labour laws must be respected. Rights—legal and fundamental—must be protected."

Motivated Workforce, Stronger Football

Central to Mweemba’s message was the need to uplift FAZ staff.

“We want to have a motivated workforce. Improving the conditions of service for our hardworking employees is a top priority because a motivated team delivers results.”

Bridging the Past with the Present

In a move likely to win bipartisan support across the football spectrum, Mweemba signaled openness to working with former FAZ presidents.

"If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. We need to work with Mr. Andrew Kamanga, Teddy Mulonga, and Kalusha Bwalya. They remain vital to our football heritage."

Decentralization and Provincial Empowerment

Mweemba stressed the importance of ensuring all 10 provinces have the tools and support to function independently.

“We must empower our provinces. Simple tools like printers for player cards should not be a luxury but a standard.”

Continental Ambitions and Club Commitments

Turning to international competition, Mweemba set the bar high.

“We want our four CAF slots back. With proper support for our coaches and players, we can win both AFCON and WAFCON. And we must qualify for the World Cup—no excuses.”

He also announced his resignation from club duties at FC MUZA to focus fully on national responsibilities.

“I’m no longer president of MUZA. I am now a property of the nation.”

Resolving Internal Conflicts

Addressing the rift between national star Fashion Sakala and Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant, Mweemba promised leadership and reconciliation.

“Fashion is a key player. Avram is a key coach. The issue will be resolved. Charity begins at home.”

As Keith Mweemba takes the helm of FAZ, his message is clear: Zambian football is entering a new era—one defined by inclusion, respect, and bold ambition
