Following the dramatic events that unfolded during and after the highly anticipated Kitwe Derby held at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Nkana Football Club has publicly addressed the situation and condemned the unacceptable behaviour exhibited by some of its supporters.
Club President, Eng. Joseph Silwamba, acknowledged that while the team celebrated a hard-fought lead in the 64th minute, tensions escalated after a controversial penalty was awarded during extra time. The decision, which many fans found contentious, reportedly sparked unrest among both players and spectators.
Eng. Silwamba stated that although the passion of the fans was understood, the club could not condone the acts of vandalism that followed. He strongly condemned the damage to stadium property, particularly the destruction of seats, and emphasized that such actions were not representative of Nkana FC’s values.
He reiterated that, despite disagreements with the referee’s decision, the club remained committed to upholding the spirit of the game and sportsmanship. The President expressed deep regret over the incident and extended a sincere apology to the stadium management, assuring stakeholders that the club would take responsibility by replacing the damaged seats.
Eng. Silwamba further highlighted Nkana FC’s dedication to creating a positive and respectful match-day experience for all. He revealed that the club would be introducing new measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
In closing, he expressed gratitude to the club’s loyal supporters for their continued backing and urged fans to express their enthusiasm in ways that uplift the team and honour the sport.
The statement was issued by Ms. Lillian Musenge, Media and Public Relations Officer for Nkana Football Club.

Meanwhile, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga confirmed that the incident would not go unpunished. He remarked, “We sign off on a disturbing note following ugly scenes at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where some hooligans masquerading as fans ripped off seats in protest of a penalty given to Power Dynamos against Nkana. The match ended 1-1. With the game being the most popular and biggest advert of our league, there could not have been a worse portrayal of our football. We are barely hanging on to one FIFA-approved stadium and cannot afford such levels of barbarism. While it is too early to provide a conclusive picture of what measures will be taken, I can definitely confirm that this behaviour will be heavily punished.”
