Head coach Oswald Mutapa has challenged his players to raise their ambitions as they prepare for the next phase of continental football.

“Football is dynamic; benchmarks change. We wanted to reach the group stages — we’re there now. So, do we still aim for the group stages? The benchmark has changed. We should now ask ourselves if we can reach the quarter-finals,” said Mutapa.

Power Dynamos took the lead through Kenyan forward Moses Shumah, who came off the bench to score his second goal of the preliminary rounds. However, Vipers SC found an equaliser in the 79th minute through Akrim Watambala, setting up a tense finish in Ndola.

Coach Mutapa, while pleased with his side’s qualification, cautioned against complacency — reminding his players that the journey has only just begun.

“Today we are excited, and we will celebrate, but tomorrow the job starts if we really want to achieve something. So far, we haven’t achieved anything yet — qualifying for the group stages is only the beginning,” he added.

This achievement marks Zambia’s return to the CAF Champions League group stages after six years, with Power Dynamos set to await the official draw in November.
