The attire of some Copper Queens players, including forward Prisca Chilufya, has sparked discussions among Zambian football fans. Many question why these athletes often choose outfits typically associated with men, suggesting that they can still play football while dressing in more traditionally feminine clothing.

In a candid response on bolanews.co EVERYTHING BOLA podcast, Chilufya defended her clothing choices, emphasizing that her priority is comfort.

“I can’t speak for everyone, but I will speak for myself; I dress to feel comfortable,” Chilufya said. “With the training and the things we do, our bodies tend to change, and sometimes there are certain clothes that we can’t wear because we just don’t feel comfortable.”

She also revealed the challenges she faces when she opts for traditionally feminine clothing:“If I am putting on a dress, I will get the opposite comments, like people saying I’m a male wearing female clothes. But when I dress like this [in male clothing], nobody even notices. It’s not that we want to be male; that’s just how we feel comfortable.”

Does Football Affect the Female Body?

Renowned Zambian medical expert Dr. Mujajati weighed in on the topic, highlighting the physical, physiological, and psychological changes female athletes often undergo due to professional sports like football.

He noted key areas impacted:

  1. Body Appearance: Changes in muscle mass and structure.

  2. Bone Structure: Adaptations to high physical demands.

  3. Hormonal Shifts: Resulting from intense physical activity.

  4. Skin and Hair Changes: Linked to hormonal or environmental factors.

  5. Mental and Psychological Changes: Often related to the pressures of professional sports.
