The Zambia Women’s National Team, known as the Copper Queens, has commenced preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) back-to-back matches against Angola. Starting their training in Lusaka on Sunday, the team was seen in vigorous training at Sunset Stadium under the guidance of coach Florence Mwila, displaying a sharp performance. Notably, Kazakhstan-based players Ireen Lungu and Martha Tembo were present during the training session.
However, ZESCO Ndola Girls trio—Leticia Lungu, Avell Chitundu, and Fridah Kabwe—will join the squad tomorrow due to their prior game commitment against Chipata Girls at the Trade Fair Ground. Other foreign-based players are expected to join the camp when the FIFA women’s international window opens on November 27, 2023.
The team's objective is to secure a fourth consecutive appearance at the WAFCON and further build on their previous achievement of winning bronze against Nigeria at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco. The squad features players from various clubs both domestically and internationally.
